High fives all around as Springfield Little League advanced July 8.
On the baseball field, the little league all-stars from West Springfield pulled it together this month for the win and are heading to the big little league tournament this week, and possibly on to the championship on July 21.
“They’re a group of really hard-nosed kids that seized on their opportunities,” said all-star manager Kyle Murdock. “We’re going to give it our best,” he said.
To get to this point wasn’t easy but everything came together on July 8 when the 10-11-12-year-olds team beat the Fort Hunt Little League 10-3 at Wrigley Field in Springfield. With that win, they are riding a four-game winning streak as they head to Lynchburg, to take on Virginia Beach Little League, York County Little League and Bennett’s Creek Little League.
It’s not just the game though, said Murdock. The players learn a lot about teamwork and overcoming diversity. “I think they’ll look back on their teammates,” he said.
