Girl Scout Cadette Troop 52018 of Service Unit 52-11 held a winter coat drive in Springfield, Va., on Saturday, December 4. Troop 52018 is comprised of seventh graders.

Community response was outstanding and the Troop collected more than 105 adult and children’s new and gently used coats along with assorted gloves, scarves, hats, and other winter clothing and boots. In total, the collection netted 300 items.

Troop 52018 designated Afghan refugees who have recently resettled in Northern Virginia as the recipients of the drive.

Community service is a long-standing tradition in Girl Scouts, which was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low.
