George Mason University recently awarded Springfield-based Interstate (Moving-Relocation-Logistics) the John C. “Jack” Wood Award for Town Gown Relations. The university-wide award recognizes individuals and businesses that foster and demonstrate leadership in cultivating the mutually beneficial relationship between the university and surrounding community.
Interstate received the business leadership award for its support of “Patriot Packout.”
Interstate provides local, long-distance and international moving services for individuals, corporations, organizations and government clients. For the past eight years, Interstate has been part of Patriot Packout, a university program designed to facilitate waste reduction on move out day. Through Patriot Packout, university students and staff are encouraged to donate unwanted clothing, appliances, and unopened food items. Interstate manages and facilitates the logistics of the operation, including storing and delivering all donations to local charities, which help families in need. The partnership gives testament to the fact that Interstate stands by its mission of delivering excellence to the community at large.
“The entire Interstate team is proud to accept this award, and to be given the opportunity to work with the students and staff at George Mason, and to help families in need,” said Arthur E. (Bud) Morrissette IV, Interstate’s president. “Together, over the last eight years, George Mason University and Interstate have distributed 72,813 pounds of clothing, appliances, and food. The partnership has been immensely successful, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the future,” adds Morrissette.
