More than 500 local residents have signed a Change.org petition to Governor Bob McDonnell in an attempt to stop the closing of locally-owned West Springfield Car Care, an auto repair shop that has operated for 12 years at 8400 Old Keene Mill Road.

Fitness Center Members Receive Lifesaving Award

Brian Heintz, a teacher at West Springfield High, recently won the Virginia State History teacher of the year award. Heintz has taught history and social studies in the Fairfax County Public School system for nine years, at both Westfield and West Springfield

5k/15k races are among the most popular events at Springfield Days.

This year marked the third annual race at Springfield Days and had by far the largest turnout the event has ever seen. "Several years back we decided that we needed a signature race for the people of Springfield to call their own, and it just keeps getting better and better every year," said Mark Russell of Springfield, the race coordinator.

Libby Haynes was in the middle of her freshman year of high school at George Washington in Alexandria when the Japanese Navy bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Nearly 2,500 Americans were killed in the surprise attack.

Greeting New ‘Fellow Americans’

Fairfax County hosts fourth annual naturalization ceremony.

"My fellow Americans," U.S. Rep Gerry Connolly (D-11) said with gravitas, pausing to let the meaning sink in. And when it did, 75 immigrants - from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan - who had just raised their right hand and taken the Oath of Allegiance to become American citizens, erupted with applause and tears, waving American flags and hugging family members. They were gathered at the Fairfax County Government Center Friday, May 25, for the county’s fourth annual naturalization ceremony.

Over two hundred people gathered Tuesday night, May 15, in West Springfield to honor Girl Scouts of Association 52 of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC) at their Fourth Annual Spring Precious Medals Ceremony titled "100 years of Helping Hands."

Gray Alan Combs, Jr., 22, died after encounter with police.

Fairfax County police have released the name of the man who died after officers shot him on Saturday, May 19. Gray Alan Combs, Jr., 22, "of no fixed address" died after he was taken to a hospital, police said.
