Skateboarding for a Cause

SkateFest 2012 to raise money for Children's National Medical Center.

Skaters from all over Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and beyond will travel to Wakefield Skate Park in Annandale, on June 22 and 23 to participate in the 6th annual SkateFest. The festival celebrates National Go Skateboarding Day and raises money for Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Springfield’s ‘Signature Race’

5k/15k races are among the most popular events at Springfield Days.

This year marked the third annual race at Springfield Days and had by far the largest turnout the event has ever seen. "Several years back we decided that we needed a signature race for the people of Springfield to call their own, and it just keeps getting better and better every year," said Mark Russell of Springfield, the race coordinator.

Chick-fil-A Opens in Springfield

One hundred people camped outside of Chick-fil-A's newest store in Springfield for 24 hours before its opening, starting from 6 a.m. on April 25 through 6 a.m. on April 26, to receive a year's worth of free food (52 coupons) as part of Chick-fil-A's "First 100 Celebration."

Springfield resident stars in 'On the Waterfront.'

It has been hailed as one of the greatest movies of all time, winning eight Academy Awards for an all-star cast that included Marlon Brando, Eva Marie Saint, Lee J. Cobb and Karl Malden. But for playwright Budd Schulberg, himself an Oscar winner for Best Story and Screenplay, the 1954 film version of "On the Waterfront" was never quite the story he wanted told.

Fairfax Symphony Announces 2012-2013 Season

The season will mark the beginning of a new three-year focus in programming called ‘Mischief in Music: Wit, Insolence and Insurrection.’

The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and music director Christopher Zimmerman announced the 2012-2013 season repertoire, with six Masterworks performances at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax.
