Gold Star family members of Alexandria’s fallen Vietnam veterans were among the hundreds who gathered to pay tribute to the city’s fallen during a Memorial Day ceremony May 26 at the Captain Rocky Versace Plaza and Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Del Ray.

Marjorie Leighey Saved an Architectural Gem

In 1964, when the Virginia Department of Highways wanted to condemn her Falls Church house and pay her $25,605 to make room for Interstate 66, Marjorie Leighey did not whimper or cower. She swung into action.

Honoring the Life of Janie Strauss
Former School Board chair and representative was dedicated to family and students; Strauss’s life produced lasting good.
Jane Kamps (Janie) Strauss, a McLean resident since 1984, died at home on April 11, 2025 at the age of 78 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Strauss was a long time member of the Fairfax County School Board.
