A special free event benefiting the Freedom House Museum Rehabilitation Project will take place at the Morrison House Hotel on Sunday, July 20, from 1-3 p.m., featuring historical discussions about Freedom House and readings from ‘Spite House,’ a modern day mystery set in Old Town Alexandria. Reserve tickets online. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/let-freedom-house-ring-a-literary-fundraiser-tickets-1396834211729

“Three historic houses of Old Town — Freedom House, Morrison House and Spite House — are combining for a one-of-a-kind event where history, community, and story telling will come together,” said Gretchen Bulova, director of the Office of Historic Alexandria, who will share the history of Freedom House and the latest information on its important rehabilitation.

The event will feature readings by celebrated actor and retired jurist William T. Newman; WETA Classical announcer and producer Nicole Lacroix; Old Town Crier Ben Fiore-Walker; and John Wasowicz, author of the popular ‘Spite House’ mystery. Brendan O’Leary, owner of the Prince Street spite house used as a model in the modern mystery, will also participate in the program.

Be part of this special event at Morrison House, 116 S. Alfred Street, at 1 p.m. Copies of Spite House will be available for sale; forty percent of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Freedom House restoration project.
