A 52-year-old Springfield man has died after he was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, Feb. 2. Tomas Maldonado was attempting to cross the road in the 7200 block of Commerce Street around 8:30. The driver of a 2013 Ford Edge, who was traveling northbound on Commerce Street, hit Maldonado as he was walking in the road. Maldonado was not in a crosswalk. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead this afternoon. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors for the vehicle driver, but alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian -- according to FCPD. Crash Reconstruction Unit will continue to investigate the crash.
