More than 760 Keene Mill Elementary School students in Springfield ran in the Boosterthon Fun Run on Sept. 16, capping a nine-day fundraising program and learning experience with the theme “Backyard Box Office.”

Students ran an average of 30 to 35 laps at the school to celebrate the money they raised during the Boosterthon.

Over the nine-days, students learned five steps to make a difference in their community. Documentary-style videos taught lessons about identifying a need, writing a plan, forming and launching a team, and following through with the plan.

From the stories of five difference-making youths, the program is designed to inspire students to put their own ideas into action.

Overall, the Keene Mill students raised $32,000 that will be used to put finishing touches on the school’s renovation, including chairs, carpet and bookshelves.
